Community Development & Economic Growth Through Job Creation

Community Development & Economic Growth Through Job Creation

The main objective of the program was to push forward with ongoing projects and job creation nationwide despite numerous challenges brought forth by the pandemic.
This was accomplished through continuous recruitment for internal/organic roles and continuous construction and awarding of contracts across all projects of Robinsons Homes nationwide.
The entry embodies the category as it addresses several goals under it such as community development, job creation and growing enterprise, sustainable economic growth, and full employment with decent work and equal pay – because when a job is created an entire family and community benefits - it reduces poverty and results in people having money to spend on food, clothing, decent housing, entertainment, and a variety of other areas – thus creating demand for products and services that keep the economy going. This was made more important by the pandemic when many businesses were forced to close and/or reduce manpower and when economic recovery is more critical.

In 2020, 12 organic employees were hired nationwide by Robinsons Homes. This has doubled in 2021 where 24 employees have been hired as of November 15, 2021. A total of 77 POs for a total of 246,831,480.60 was also awarded to different contractors/suppliers nationwide.

The entry is not so different from what other markets would normally due at any normal period but given how the pandemic has been ongoing for 2 years, it’s different because while most companies have been laying off people and pausing projects, Robinsons Homes has not ceased to stop operations nor furloughed any employees.

Jobs are said to provide a safety net in times of crisis. While the pandemic has not, fortunately, served to make the Philippines go through an economic crisis, it still has caused some sort of instability among people. As the ILO says, "Decent work resumes the aspirations of humans in relation to work. It brings together access to productive and suitably remunerated work, safety at the workplace and social protection for families, better prospects for personal development and social integration, freedom for individuals to set out their claims, to organize and to participate in decisions that affect their lives, and equality of opportunity and treatment for all men and women."
