Robinsons Palawan Sends Relief to Victims of the Fire Incident that Hit 2 Villages in Puerto Princesa

February 29, 2024

Two densely populated coastal barangays in Puerto Princesa were engulfed by a massive structural fire that broke out on February 7, at 2am in Brgy. Bagong Silang and spread to Brgy. Pagkakaisa. Based on the report of the Puerto Princesa City Fire Station, about 920 families living in some 450 houses were forced to relocate due to the incident.

The structures that were gutted were constructed from light materials, situated near the cruise port project currently being developed by the government.

Carrying little to no belongings, residents of the two barangays fled their engulfed houses and sought shelter in nearby vacant streets; while some residents including children and the elderly, found refuge in the sea, utilizing the low tide to their advantage. Refugees were eventually brought to a temporary evacuation site by Puerto Princesa LGU.

In response to the calamity, Robinsons Palawan, in cooperation with the Puerto Princesa City Social Welfare Development Department (CSWD), mobilized RTulong Relief Operations to assist in the provision of basic necessities for the refugees. Trooping to the evacuation site, employee volunteers donated family relief packs to 348 families from Brgy. Bagong Silang and 380 families from Brgy. Pagkakaisa. The relief packs contained grocery items such as canned goods, noodles, rice, coffee and biscuits.
