Robinsons Tacloban Participates in DENR's Coastal Clean-Up Activity
June 07, 2024 – World Environment Day (WED) is observed every year on June 5th and is a United Nations initiative aimed at promoting environmental awareness and action globally. First established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, the day serves as a platform for raising awareness about pressing environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, wildlife conservation, and sustainable development.
This year, World Environment Day 2024, which carries the slogan “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration”, focuses on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. In celebration of of this international observance, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region VIII – Eastern Visayas launched a call for volunteers for a Coastal Clean-up activity along the coast of San Juanico Strait near the Tacloban Market area and port area.
Showing its staunch support for the endeavor, Robinsons Tacloban accepted the invitation and mobilized R Kalikasan, RLove’s CSR program upholding environmental sustainability. Through R Kalikasan, Robinsons Tacloban volunteers, led by Mall Operations Manager Abigail Ramirez, gathered with their cleaning gears in their assigned coastline area to contribute time and effort in collecting trash and debris that have been washed into the bay near the sea.
Robinsons Tacloban’s support of DENR’s environmental programs demonstrates a strong commitment to achieving environmental sustainability beyond the malls of its property.
R Kalikasan is RLove's environmental sustainability CSR program. R Kalikasan takes up greening initiatives and volunteerism projects that aim to mitigate climate change and reduce wastes sent to landfills; supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG): #13 - Climate Action & #14 - Life below water.
RLove believes that as one community, we must stand united in our efforts in contributing to a brighter & greener future for our shared home.
